Description:

The College of Allied Health Sciences at East Carolina University invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy (full-time, 12-month appointment). The successful candidate will provide leadership for the Department of Occupational Therapy as it moves toward doctoral education and facilitate the scholarship and professional development of the occupational therapy faculty members. Also, the successful candidate will provide leadership to continuously improve the education and scholarship of occupational therapy students. The chair of the department reports directly to the Dean of the CAHS and is expected to advance the college’s vision of state and national distinction in professional education, research, and service. The Chair is also responsible for meeting the requirements set forth by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). Organizational Unit Overview:

The Occupational Therapy Department has five dedicated labs with ample equipment/supplies and is one of nine departments in the College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS). Laupus Health Science Library is housed in the College and provides a librarian dedicated to supporting Allied Health Sciences students and faculty in scholarly work. All classrooms are technology-enhanced (e.g., SMART devices, video capture).

The College is within the Division of Health Sciences, along with medicine, nursing, and dentistry. It is adjacent to a 900-bed, level-1 trauma center which offers multiple opportunities to partner with their practitioners. East Carolina University, with 29,000 students, is located in Greenville, North Carolina (population of 89,000) and is 90 miles from Research Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill) or from the Crystal Coast.

FOUNDING DIRECTOR Physical Therapy Program – Associate or Full Professor

Following the CAPTE guidelines for developing programs, we are now seeking the founding Program Director. Plans are underway for the construction of state-of-the art facilities linked to the new Health Science Building which is home to our Physician Assistant program. The Program Director holds a faculty appointment and has administrative, academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of Charleston Southern University. The Program Director demonstrates excellence in all aspects of education, teaching, and curriculum development. These activities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensuring that regular evaluation of all Program Core Faculty and Associated Faculty occurs and that the evaluation results in an organized development plan that is linked to the assessment of the individual core faculty member and to program needs.
  • Maintains responsibility and authority for planning and administrating the program’s financial resources.

  • Graduate of an accredited physical therapist professional program or deemed equivalent non-accredited program.
  • Earned doctoral degree in physical therapy, education, clinical specialty, or other related fields of study.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in South Carolina.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a physical therapy clinician and a record of successful teaching performance.
  • Eligible for or holds senior faculty status (Associate Professor or Professor).
  • Demonstrates an understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapy education.
  • Displays the abilities to provide leadership and to be an effective advocate for the DPT program at all institutional levels.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform at the capacity to participate in the most sensitive aspects of peer review and shared governance (promotion or continued contract decisions).
  • Displays a clear vision of entry-level physical therapist education.
  • Member of the American Physical Therapy Association.

The Department of Physical Therapy (www.udel.edu/PT) at the University of Delaware is a thriving academic unit ranked #1 in the nation by US News & World Report. The Department includes 30 faculty and professionals including 14 PhD faculty with independent research lines, 180 professional students in the Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) Program, 30 graduate students pursuing a PhD in Biomechanics and Movement Science (BIOMS), five accredited post-professional residency programs, a 10,000-square-foot physical therapy clinic that is open to the public, and over $6M in annual externally funding research expenditures, primarily from the NIH.
